Admiral V. A. Kornilov
Admiral Kornilov was chief organizer and commander of the first defense of Sevastopol.
The monument to Admiral Kornilov is situated on Malakhov Hill at the exact place where Admiral was wounded. He is portrayed at the moment at the moment of his mortal wounding.
His last words were "Stand for Sevastopol". These words are engraved in the pedestal as well as list of ships he commanded and battles he took part in.
To the right of the pedestal there is a figure of a soldier with a cannon ball in his hands. He is ready to stand for Sevastopol.
At the foot of the monument there is a granite slab with a cross composed of cannon balls. It marks the place where Admiral V. Kornilov was wounded.
The monument was destroyed during the World War WII and erected anew in 1983 to the 200-anniversary of Sevastopol.
The sculptural portrait of Admiral V.A. Kornilov is also installed in the niche outside of Panorama Building at Historical Boulevard.
